Richard Klein began learning
silversmithing and making jewelry in high school in Iowa. He went on to complete an apprenticeship with a jewelry manufacturer.

His method of silversmithing is fabrication with mainly sterling silver wire and sheets.
He also does commissions in 14, 18, 22 Karat gold. Richard cuts and polishes some of his gemstones; others are purchased from dealers around the country.
