Amalia Powell was born in Monterrey, Mexico and studied at the University of Monterrey with infancies in various media. Since moving to the United States over twenty years ago she has studied with Nature Artist Jesus Carranza of San Benito, Texas, Mr. Guy Morrow of Corpus Christi, Texas and
Mrs. Dora DeAIba of McAllen, Texas.

A long time member of the Brownsville Art League and the Harlingen Art Forum, her works have shown in the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival, The Beach Comber Art Show, The Pharr Classic Fine Art Show, and The Brownsville Fine Arts Museum. She has been honored with numerous awards for her works in oil painting.
